Shake that Butter

In honor of St. Patrick's Day coming up, the children made home made Irish bread (with oatmeal) and made their own butter to use on it.  They had so much fun making the bread.  They really liked the bread and many children asked for seconds.  One even asked for a third slice because he said it was so good.  When we finished making the butter, one little boy said, "I'll bet there isn't anything that you can't make, Ms. Gumry."  What a wonderful compliment.  This is a really easy recipe.  We sent it home in the children's backpacks.  If you didn't get a copy, let us know.  We will send another copy.

A fnished loaf of our bread.   The texture was a little heavier than what we are used to, but it would be really good to dip in a home made strew.  The oatmeal gave it a really good flavor.

Shake, shake your butter.

Everybody had to shake.  There was a lot of shaking in this classroom.

Maybe rolling it will be easier.

Look, the cream is starting to change.
Time to make our Irish bread.

Still lots of shaking going on.

Still shaking.

Teacher used the knife to cut the X in the bread.

Another loaf of bread.

Mushing it up into a ball.

Cut another X

Yum!  This is good!
