Our Houses

Our theme has been self-awareness for the past two weeks. As part of the unit, the children talked about homes. They worked in groups to build houses from Legos.

Preschool is Super!

Preschool students had a SUPER time during the first three days of class. I will try to add more pictures next week.

We are getting a new camera for our classroom. A lady from Olathe donated it through the Donor's Choose program. I will be able to take and load pictures much easier with the new camera.

We Play in Preschool

The children get time to play both inside and outside during the day.

We Eat in Preschool

The morning children enjoy breakfast and snack. The afternoon children enjoy lunch and snack. Last week they learned how to open their milk cartons, open cracker packages, and to clear their space after eating. They also learned about washing their hands.

We Work in Preschool

The children started coloring, cutting, and pasting this past week. They sorted squares and circles. They looked at themselves in mirrors and drew self-portraits. They worked on the classroom rules all three days.

Next week, we will introduce "Ollie Ostrich" and the letter O.

Mrs. Bahr Reads a Good Story

The children enjoyed listening to Mrs. Bahr read the story, Will you be my Friend? Following the reading, the children used puppets to ask others to be their friends.

Welcome to Our Classroom

Welcome to our classroom and our classroom blog. We post pictures and information here about our classroom. We have lots of fun and learn many things. We try to make learning fun by doing hands-on activities. We also use lots of movement and music in our classroom.

This year we will have four paraeducators helping in our morning class (Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Lampson, Mrs. Bahr, and Mrs. High). They are all highly qualified for their positions. They have all worked in the district for many years and the children love them. Mrs. High and Mrs. Bahr will help me with the afternoon children.

Tips:
Please try not to send your child to school in flip flops. They like to flip children over and flop them on their faces, especially when getting on or off the bus and on our ramps. The pea gravel gets in them and are uncomfortable to the children. Fip flops are also dangerous to run in.

Dress your children for the weather. We go outside unless the weather is too hot, cold, or wet.

We do lots of messy play. What a fun way to learn! Even though we put paint shirts on the children, they sometimes get paint on their clothes. Accidents sometimes happen.

Thanks so much for sending your child to our classroom. We look forward to partnering with you as your child begins his or her school career. Please feel free to contact me at any time. You can either call the school or e-mail me at montgomeryb@westelk.us. I love to hear from parents.
