The preschool students did a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activity the past several days. We talked about homes and had been practicing building homes with blocks during the family unit. The students then were given an assortment of boxes and other materials to select from. They decided what they wanted their homes to look like and then selected the materials to build their homes. They had to decide how they wanted the pieces to fit together and had to do some redesigning to get the pieces to stay on (We had plenty of masking tape to hold things together until they dried.)
Once their homes had dried, they got to paint them. There was lots of creativity going on during this activity. They are so proud of their creations. We are keeping the homes on display in our classroom until parent/teacher conferences. Parents can take the houses home at conferences.
