Apple Tasting

The children learned about apples today.  We read a book about how apples start with blossoms and grow to large apples if they have enough sun and rain.  The children got to taste different kinds of apples and vote on which they liked best.  The morning children preferred the green apples although we found that some green apples were more sour than other ones.  The morning class liked the "sour" taste.  The afternoon children preferred the Fuji apples, although they had a difficult time deciding between them and the red delicious.

Teddy Bear Picnic

The preschool students learned math skills today while having fun.  They thought they were playing, but they were actually learning to recognize numerals one through five, one-to-one correspondence, counting to five, and that the last number we say is how many we have.  During the tea party, they had to count the bears and then put out that number of plates, cups, and cookies for the bears.  We also learned some social skills and manipulating the small items helped develop fine motor muscles to prepare us for holding a pencil and writing.
